April Athlete of the Month: Brooke Long

Congratulations, Brooke! You’re the NoCoast Athlete of the Month!!!

Brooke has been a NoCoaster for almost 3 years and, in that time, Brooke, Andy, and their two beautiful girls have become great friends and role models within our community. Brooke is always cheerful, in a great mood, and one of the kindest people we know; her presence in class always brings our energy up! Brooke has worked hard to become a well rounded athlete and CrossFitter. From cycling the barbell, to double unders, to knocking out chest to bar pull ups in 19.5, Brooke seems to pick skills up quickly and easily! We couldn't be more thankful to have Brooke and her family at NoCoast!!!

Quotes from Brooke:

“CrossFit has contributed to so many positive changes in our lives. The NoCoast environment has helped us to keep health at the forefront of our family. Our vacations and family time often involve being active as a family. The best part is the great friends that we have gained!”

“Nutrition is everything for me. It contributes to my mood, motivation, and my energy. It contributes to my performance at the gym and more importantly I’m a better wife and mom because I just feel better.”

Athletic/Sports history/highlights: Volleyball and Softball in High school and college.

How long have you been CrossFitting?

4 years.

How did you get into CrossFit?

My husband talked me into trying it because I was getting bored with other exercise programs. CrossFit was the perfect fit to challenge me and also has such a variety of movements. I love that we all can have strengths but always have so many things to work on.

What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?

Anything with Squats.

What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?

Probably burpees or sprinting.

What is your most memorable CrossFit moment?

I have many! A lot of my most memorable moments are watching other people achieve a goal or a PR. For me personally, it’s probably my most recent PR of getting a 165# OH squat.

How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery?

Nutrition is everything for me. It contributes to my mood, motivation, and my energy. It contributes to my performance at the gym and more importantly I’m a better wife and mom because I just feel better.

How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness?

CrossFit improves everything for me! It starts my week off on Mondays and keeps me going. Once I get to the gym I have the energy to tackle everything I need to. The community always inspires me to make better choices in nutrition as well as other activities. It gives me a date or two each week with the hubby. Overall I’m always in a better mood when I leave the gym.

How has CrossFit changed your family?

CrossFit has contributed to so many positive changes in our lives. The NoCoast environment has helped us to keep health at the forefront of our family. Our vacations and family time often involve being active as a family. The best part is the great friends that we have gained!

What role does health and fitness play in raising your two girls?

Health and fitness has helped opened our eyes so much in the way we raise our girls. We love having the knowledge to help them fuel and train their bodies and minds to be their very best.

Advice to new people:

Be patient, don’t get too frustrated or compare yourself to others. Set your own personal goals. Keep coming and don’t be afraid to ask questions, everyone at the gym is more than willing to help out. You won’t find a better community!
