January Athlete of the Month: Kim Hageman

Congratulations, Kim! You are our January Athlete of the Month!!!

Kim has brought so much energy to our morning classes since starting this past summer. We not only love her intensity in workouts, but how friendly she is with everyone in our community. Kim loves to absolutely crush herself day in and day out and, for her, it is just as much about the psychological aspect as it is about physical fitness. We love Kim’s dedication to her health, fitness, and our community. We are not quite sure how she keeps up with everything being an amazing mom of 5, but we are grateful she does and is constantly impressed by her as a mom, athlete, and friend!

Quotes from Kim:

“I try really, really, really hard to stay on track with my nutrition. It’s been much harder working from home this past year with 5 homeschool/virtual kids and always having food available!! When I’m on track, it plays a huge role. I can really tell a difference...2021 goal!!”

“There have been a few times I’ve had to step away from the CrossFit gym atmosphere and I always miss it and my fitness always suffers. I love working out with others, the community feel, and having a good routine to follow, preferably programmed by someone other than myself :) It has helped me in so many ways...friendships, health, sanity...the list goes on and on.”

Age/Weight:

41/140 lbs. Athletic/Sports history/highlights: I have been a runner my entire life. In college I competed as a heptathlete (100 hurdles, 200, 800, javelin, shot put, high jump, long jump).

How long have you been CrossFitting? I’ve been CrossFitting since 2006.

How did you get into CrossFit? My husband and I were both stationed at Ft Carson in Colorado Springs and loved group training. We owned and operated one of the first CrossFit gyms in Colorado Springs in 2006. My husband was the one that always kept me going with different fun workouts. These workouts, no joke, kept me sane by giving me the adrenaline rush and exercise by body needed as a mom of toddlers.

What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? I get excited whenever there is a barbell :) What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? Gymnastics!! What is your most memorable CrossFit moment? Getting 2nd at the Turkey Challenge in 2019 and State Champion in weightlifting in 2019

How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery? I try really, really, really hard to stay on track with my nutrition. It’s been much harder working from home this past year with 5 homeschool/virtual kids and always having food available!! When I’m on track, it plays a huge role. I can really tell a difference...2021 goal!! How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness? There have been a few times I’ve had to step away from the CrossFit gym atmosphere and I always miss it and my fitness always suffers. I love working out with others, the community feel, and having a good routine to follow, preferably programmed by someone other than myself :) It has helped me in so many ways...friendships, health, sanity...the list goes on and on. How has CrossFit changed your family? Immensely!! I don’t even know where to start...we are an extremely active family. My husband, Dave, and I have 5 kids and we strive to teach them the value of fitness and strength. Like I stated earlier, we opened a CrossFit gym in 2006...our kids grew up in a gym thinking it was normal. It has helped them in all their sports and given them familiarity to the gym atmosphere and all the fundamental movements. We also try to pass on our passion for fitness as sport coaches and summer strength coaches for the athletes at Erie High School. Our kids are all very active in their own sports! They wrestle, play basketball, baseball, cheer, run track, football and of course lift weights! CrossFit is what started this strength journey for us as a family.
