June Athlete of the Month: Devin Mills
Congratulations Devin, you are our June Athlete of the Month!
Devin has been a part of our NoCoast community for 13 months now and has found his place with the 10:30AM class; this group loves to socialize, but they work extremely hard too! Devin’s hard work has been paying off, as he has found his fitness is allowing him to do the things he loves to do with his family and keep up with his kids! And, if you have been paying attention like us, you can see the dramatic changes in Devin immediately in this time! He has absolutely being striving and hitting his goals of dropping weight, gaining muscle and taking one step at a time, day after day, to obtain a longer, healthier, and happier life!
We love how consistent Devin has been over his time at NoCoast and we appreciate his effort and dedication to our community. It shows and it is contagious :)
Quotes from Devin:
“In February we went to Vail for the week and I was able to ski 6 days in a row. That was all thanks to NoCoast, I have never had the level of endurance I have now.”
“I am able to keep with my kids, 8 and 10, whether it is skiing, biking, hiking. They have also learned a lot about nutrition whether they want to or not :)”
“CrossFit is a journey and at NoCoast you have the coaches and community to get you to your goals. You will always have more to learn, things to get better at, good days, and bad. Keep with it, you will see the transition with movements, endurance, and everything else.”
Age: 44
Athletic/Sports history/highlights:
I grew up in Colorado and did a lot of outdoor sports, climbing, skiing, mountain biking.
How long have you been CrossFitting?
I have been at NoCoast for 13 months.
How did you get into CrossFit?
My sister invited me to join a couple works out when she started doing it.
What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?
Definitely toes to bar, it took almost 12 months to figure it out. Thanks to a few key coaching tips it finely made sense.
What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?
Snatch and overhead squats. I sit at a computer all day and struggle with the mobility to keep the bar in the right spot.
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment?
The toes to bar workout, when the whole class was cheering for me the first time I got it. Shout out to the 10:30 class for all the support and occasional socializing. The community at NoCoast is amazing, so much support!
How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery?
Nutrition is key, i did the nutrition challenge in January, no sugar, no alcohol. I lost 16 pounds but felt way better overall, more energy, etc. It is truly amazing the difference nutrition can make and once you are making better choices you definitely feel when you are not.
How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness?
In February we went to Vail for the week and I was able to ski 6 days in a row. That was all thanks to NoCoast, I have never had the level of endurance I have now.
How has CrossFit changed your family?
I am able to keep with my kids, 8 and 10, whether it is skiing, biking, hiking. They have also learned a lot about nutrition whether they want to or not :)
