September Athlete of the Month: Katie Warning
Congratulations Katie, you are our Athlete of the Month!
Katie has been a dedicated member of our community for many years now! She has figured out a way to remain consistent, even through pregnancy, postpartum, and a recent soccer related ankle injury. She is always working to find ways to keep moving and being a part of our community regardless!. We love Katie’s support for our community! For her (like most of us), NoCoast is just as much about mentally and emotionally feeling better, as it is about the workout and the physical aspect! Overall health :)
Thank you, Katie, for being a part of NoCoast and for all of your love and support over the years! We are grateful for you!
Quotes from Katie:
“I really just enjoy each class and the support given to one another. It's amazing, and motivating, to see what others can accomplish, and I know I would never push myself or do what I do if it weren't for the community environment.”
“CrossFit has made such a positive impact on my life. After high school, I struggled for years with consistent exercise, eating well, my relationship to food, and to my body. Once I started CrossFit things started to shift for me...I was showing up consistently, eating healthier, and feeling better about myself physically and mentally.”
Age: 34
Athletic/Sports history/highlights:
Athletic highlight is definitely childbirth! I played soccer and swam competitively up through high school. I picked up indoor soccer again, a fun league, a couple of years ago and love(d) getting back to it (until breaking my fibula...)!
How long have you been CrossFitting?
6 years
How did you get into CrossFit?
After moving to a new area, I was just looking for a gym that had group classes and popped into a CrossFit gym to try it out...and here I am!
What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?
Any WOD with a little bit of everything - strength, conditioning, etc.
What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement?
Rope Climbs and Wall walks (can't really do either of them).
What is your most memorable CrossFit moment?
I can't say I have any specific moments. I really just enjoy each class and the support given to one another. It's amazing, and motivating, to see what others can accomplish, and I know I would never push myself or do what I do if it weren't for the community environment.
How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery?
I've come a long way with my nutrition and relationship to food, and CrossFit has definitely supported me in that journey. What works best for me is not following anything specific and not restricting any foods. I do prioritize meal prepping and incorporating lots of veggies. Very rarely will I say no to a snack!
How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness?
CrossFit has made such a positive impact on my life. After high school, I struggled for years with consistent exercise, eating well, my relationship to food, and to my body. Once I started CrossFit things started to shift for me...I was showing up consistently, eating healthier, and feeling better about myself physically and mentally...it feels easy now and as it should be. I also love being outdoors hiking, biking, skiing, etc. and grateful to have the energy and strength to do cool things in nature!
How has CrossFit changed your family?
CrossFit gives me the opportunity to decompress after work and the space to shift my focus to my family. I hope, at least most days, this allows me to come home more present, happy, and energized.
Advice to new people:
Just show up...even if you are always 5+ minutes late... :)... and focus on you, don't compare yourself to others!
