NoCoast’s 2017 Lifestyle Challenge

In our day to day program at NoCoast, we focus so much on movement and workouts, that sometimes nutrition takes a back seat in the big picture of health and fitness. It’s easy to dedicate 1 hour of your day to get your workout in, but dedicating the other 23 hours of the day to perfect nutrition, specially when it’s away from the comforts of our gym community, is difficult. This is why we’ve always done our best to make nutrition a priority at NoCoast.

We start with an introduction to nutrition in our LiftOne program and we continue practicing it through our Nutrition Challenges that we hold 3 times per year, every year. With the conclusion of our latest Challenge, we have also introduced 2 new ways to get on top and/or stay on top of your nutrition journey. If you are interested in either of these options, please email me (dan@nocoastcrossfit.com)

  1. Log Review - Logging your nutrition and we will keep you accountable: $25 per month.

  2. Nutritional Counseling, Meet with a Coach 1 on 1 to review your nutrition, learn new strategies, and educate you on the next part of your journey: $20 per 30 minute session.

Our summer challenge this year was called the Lifestyle Challenge. Our goal was to meet each individual where they were at in their nutritional journey and help them make improvements that would last longer than a month or two. Each week we taught a different nutritional strategy and the individuals in the Challenge practiced for a week; week 1 was Clean Eating, week 2 introduced balancing macro-nutrients (proteins, carbs, and fats), and week 3 was the Zone Diet. During week 4 each individual had their own plan of action, which was based off of the work they did in the first 3 weeks.

Our Challenge winner was found using the results from before and after testing in the Body Fat Truck; we took the percentage of body fat lost to determine our winner.

The winner of the 2017 Lifestyle Challenge is Steve Lewis!

Before After Total

Body Fat % 15.4% 11.1% -4.3

Lean Body Mass 149.7 lbs 152 lbs +2.3 lbs

Body Weight 177 lbs 171 lbs -6 lbs

"The lifestyle challenge has been truly life changing. I have learned so much about eating clean, macro-nutrients, and the zone diet. Furthermore, the gains have been tremendous as I no longer feel wrecked after workouts, my skin is clear, and digestion has never felt better. The only negative from the challenge was weight loss as I am hard gainer and can't afford to lose mass." Steve Lewis
