October Athlete of the Month: Enrique Ibarra

Congratulations, Enrique! You’re the October NoCoast Athlete of the Month!!

Enrique is yet another great example of what a NoCoaster represents. Not only is he here day in and day out, but he gives us everything he has no matter the workout or task at hand, and never complains!! Enrique also embraces what the NoCoast community is all about; he throws down on our nutrition challenges, enjoys good company at our community days out, and this past summer took the Mountain Meltdown challenge with us at A-Basin. We love Enrique’s attitude, dedication, and work ethic - he’s always up for a challenge and always pours his heart and soul into every workout, every task, every day! We are so grateful for you, Enrique!

Quotes from Enrique: “Since starting to eat better, I have noticed that I have more energy and feel less laggy. I also have less acid reflux but I don’t know what caused that. I have probably made the biggest strides since I joined NoCoast and participating in nutrition challenges.”

“The NoCoast community has really impacted me in a way that I am forever thankful. This year has been a real roller coaster ride for me with some of the highest highs in my life and maybe the lowest low I have ever had to deal with. Having the NoCoast community/coaches there always with great attitudes and high spirits has been an oasis in my crazy life recently. I can always just go to a class and I can just step out of my head and relax/have fun with great people. I have also been able to talk to people about what’s been going on and just vent, it has helped me so much. I can’t even explain what it’s like when I go to a class - it relieves my physical and mental stress and I always leave happy and relaxed, and that is in no small part because of the community/coaches.”

Age/Weight: 32/ 200lbs Athletic/Sports history/highlights: I played hockey in high school and in my early 20s but after I tore my labrums playing I never got back to it. I was always fairly active when I was a kid and my parents would always take us hiking. When I got into high school and I wanted to get buff to impress the girls, I went to the gym a lot and kept doing that for a long time. How long have you been CrossFitting? I’ve been doing CrossFit for 2 years now. How did you get into CrossFit? I have two friends who do CrossFit and they kept saying I should do it. I was getting a little lazy/fluffy and I decided to check this “fad” out; after a few classes I was hooked. What is your favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? I like WODs with multiple movements and little to no running. What is your least favorite WOD/CrossFit movement? Running! What is your most memorable CrossFit moment? When I did my first bar muscle up, I felt really accomplished. How does nutrition play a role in your fitness and recovery? Well, I have never been that great with my nutrition - probably because I love to eat, but ever since I developed a lactose intolerance when I turned 20 I started to pay attention to it more. After developing my dairy issue I started paying attention to what I ate; not always making the best decisions, but as I’ve grown up, I’ve learned more about proper nutrition. Since starting to eat better I have noticed that I have more energy and feel less lethargic; I also have less acid reflux but I don’t know what caused that. I have probably made the biggest strides since I joined NoCoast and participating in nutrition challenges. I have also been helped with the fact that I don’t really have a sweet tooth. How has CrossFit improved your overall wellness? It has helped me get in better shape and has improved my shoulder strength/stability. Doing CrossFit has also helped my knees. I have had knee pain since my teenage years but after doing CrossFit for some time now it’s very rare I have pain. How has our NoCoast community impacted you? The NoCoast community has really impacted me in a way that I am forever thankful. Advice to new people: Don’t give up! It’s always rough starting CrossFit especially when you’re not used to the intensity but it gets better. And don’t worry about competing with anyone in class, only compete with yourself.
